Vicarious Traumatization: Self-Awareness and Care Series for Child Welfare Staff
This workshop provides staff with an opportunity to share your challenges in working with children and families, and gain support from your peers and an experienced facilitator in managing secondary trauma. While child welfare work can be rewarding and is both necessary and beneficial for children, families, and the community, it can also be stressful and demanding. It involves helping children who have been traumatized by abuse and/or neglect, and assisting families in making changes to help improve their lives. In the course of this work, we can develop secondary trauma that has a significant impact on our professional and personal lives. This workshop provides you with a place to share your feelings and reactions to the work that you do, discuss how cases impact you, learn the signs and symptoms of secondary trauma, and obtain the support and skills for managing them.
