A Better Way Inc (ABW) provides comprehensive foster care training to individuals, public and private agencies who want to be involved in foster care and adoption or work in human services. Our training is free for ABW applicants and costs $500 for others. This training enhances trauma-informed parenting information and skills, focusing on the impact of fostering on all members of prospective foster families, and enables parents to learn at their own pace and time. Examples of training subjects include, Trauma Informed Parenting, Understanding Behavior in Foster Children, Reducing Family Stress, Foster care to Adoption and many more. You will receive a PRIDE trained certificate.

ABW implemented the PRIDE Model/framework as a guiding practice for our resource families and staff. Our resource families and staff commit to our agency’s vision, mission, and values; have complementary competency-based roles; use strengths-based language; implement culturally responsive best practices; and work to achieve outcomes that support safety, well-being, and permanency for the children in your care.

Five Core Competencies
The PRIDE Model of Practice is built upon five core competency categories developed through comprehensive role analysis:

• Protecting and nurturing children;

• Meeting children’s developmental needs and addressing their delays;

• Supporting relationships with birth families;

• Connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime (permanency); and

• Working as a member of a professional team.
